Fishing has been as Hot as the weather...
This time of the year inshore fishing traditional slows down a little bit as our water temperature rises to the 90 degree mark, but as of lately fishing has been remarkably good. The daily afternoon thunderstorms have kept the water temperature in the mid 80's which has kept the fish biting. Bait is everywhere from the grass flats around the mouth of the Manatee River to the gulf side/ beach side of Anna Maria Island. The Snook bite this year has been the best its been in a couple years. The Snook have made a tremendous come back since the freeze of 2010. Most days we are catching anywhere from 20-40 Snook a trip (Picture) with most of the fish around the low to mid 20" mark. This week we caught a few larger Snook (Picture) mixed in with the mid 20" fish. The Trout and Snapper bite has been excellent as well, we have to go through a lot of smaller fish in order to get a handful keeper fish, but there has been constant action when we have been fishing for them. We have also been getting Bluefish and Mackerel when we have been targeting the Trout and Snapper. The Redfish are showing up more and more as of lately. This week we managed to catch quite a few smaller Redfish ranging from the 15"-24" and a handful of larger Redfish, with the largest this week being 30" (Picture). As long as we keep on getting our daily dose of rain it should keep the water temperature a little cooler which keeps fishing Hot.
