Anna Maria Island Fishing Charters March 1st-12th 2017 Report

Spring Fishing...

This reporting period has seen its ups and downs as far as the water temperature. We started the 1st week off in March with water temperatures reaching 78 degrees and then this past week they struggled to reach 70 degrees. The wide swing in temperatures made the fish feeling a little confused and lethargic at times. Bait is everywhere from the flats near Anna Maria Island to the Skyway bridge, but bait has proven to be difficult at times due to low water temperatures and the water being so clear right now. With all that in mind the fishing has still be pretty productive. We have been catching Snook in very good numbers (Picture) and we are seeing them everywhere. The Redfish have been a little more sporadic. I am seeing Redfish in good numbers but they seem to be biting better on the outgoing tide rather than the incoming. The Redfish we are catching good fish (Picture 1) (Picture 2).The Trout bite has proven to be the most challenging over this period. I am seeing a ton of Trout in the shallow flats and on the edges of deeper grass flats, but the do not want to eat. I've tried pilchards, shrimp, pinfish, and artificial jigs none seem to strike their interest consistently. The Trout we are catching are big (Picture). I believe after this full moon, coming up, the Trout bite should pick up.
